Modify to save rifle bullets 09/01/2018
Force a piece of memory foam into the bottom if you want to save your bullet's tip form damage. Especially with rifle rounds that are pointy, because the angled part doesn't protect the tip of those rounds from smashing into the bottom. recovered my ELD-M rounds used to setup my 6.5CM dies. Obviously no powder was used during this bullet-pulling operation, memory foam would make that difficult to recover all the powder. Just my $0.02.
ALMOST perfect 16/04/2017
I bought this after the previous puller I had broke during use--that was the second one where the striking end of the head broke open. I got this in the mail earlier this week and have pulled somewhere around 150 9mm, .45 ACP, and 5.56mm rounds.
This thing is much, MUCH better than the ones I've had in the past. One collet, that's it. No worrying about snapped O-rings or lost collet pieces or remembering which collet goes with each caliber.
One twist or a twist and a half opens the collet up to accept the round, twist it back tight in the other direction until it's snug. Whack the head against a hard surface until the bullet pulls. One or one-and-a-half twists to open, dump the components, then repeat. Much easier than pulling the collet or trying to get the brass out from the older versions.
It's almost perfect. I say "almost," because I'd make two changes. First, I find the handle to be just a bit too small in circumference. It's not that easy to grasp with a strong grip, which means you may not get as much force as you'd like to pull the bullet. And, sometimes, there's an unpleasant vibration in the handle because of the size.
The other thing I'd change is that the material that holds the collet pieces together just looks flimsy to me. It's a good thing I rarely have to open the end completely, because it looks to me like the collet is on the verge of coming apart--and it has since the day I got the product.
While the instructions are pretty thin, the product was pretty easy to figure out. The construction is similar to other products in this class, so we'll have to see how durable it is. I like it a lot and would definitely recommend this particular one over the other products in the same category to folks I know looking for this kind of device.
