Set screw is bad design 08/04/2016
Be careful if you choose to use this tool. I purchased one to use on a Trim Mate. The spindle screw is long enough so that when it's threaded all the way in to the Trim Mate station, it will still contact the base of the (adjustable) cutter from the bottom. As the Trim Mate turns, the spindle threads deeper in to the tool and pushes the cutter till it slips past the set screw. Once I realized what was happening, I returned the tool to RCBS with a letter/diagram showing the problem. RCBS replaced the tool for free. The replacement they sent me has the spindle glued in to the tool, to prevent it from threading in any deeper. It was a cheap fix, but I'm OK with this. I began using it again and even with the spindle glued in place, the cutter blades have walked out of adjustment. This time I have no idea what is causing it. But the bottom line is that an adjustable pocket uniformer is pretty risky. The pocket specs aren't going to change. A fixed tool without an adjustment set screw is the way to go. Look at Redding or Sinclair for a very nice, carbide, non-adjustable tool. Redding tool will work on a Trim Mate. Sinclair will not. Good luck.
Not quite what it could be. 12/05/2015
This seems to be the standard tool of it's kind in my circle of friends. It does an adequate job of most of the tasks it is designed to do. But, with a couple of minor tweaks it could be a great tool, and not just an adequate tool. First, as others have mentioned, the tools turn too slowly. This affects the time spent on each case as well as the way it cuts. A slow cut speed on soft metal begs for chattering, and it certainly happens here. The extra few seconds on each piece adds up after a few hundred rounds. Second, the cutter for the outside of case necks flatly does not work. No matter what you do, or how long you do it, this cutter does nothing. You can get it to cut a little by leaning the case sideways and twirling it but the results are pretty dismal. The cutter angle of this tool is wrong for engaging the burr which is typically ringing the entire mouth of commercial rifle cases. I have tried my buddies machines too and I don't have a one-off weird one. They are all like this. I would try to use another brand before settling on this, to see if there is something better. I would buy it again, but only after carefully reviewing others.
